AUSTIN (KXAN) - Two damaged sewage pumps sent more than 200,000 gallons of wastewater flowing two Northwest Austin creeks Wednesday.
The first happened when a lift station near Spicewood Springs Road and U.S. Highway 183 was hit by lighting Tuesday night.
The pumps inside the station failed, sending more than 100,000 gallons of water flowing into Bull Creek.
The second happened when rising water from Lake Creek flooded the lift station at Anderson Mill Road and West Parmer Lane.
About 100,000 gallons flowed into the creek when that station failed.
Austin Water's urging people and pets to stay out of all creeks until they're determined safe.
