AUSTIN (KXAN) - This week is Eat Local sponsored by Edible Austin, and it is a time people are encouraged to eat at local restaurants that use local produce. Tuesday night, an event called Drink Local will highlight some of Central Texas' spirits. Paula Angerstein was the second person in Central Texas to receive her distillery license for Paula's Texas Orange and Lemon, a classic component in most margaritas.

"When it came time for me to come up with a second career, I thought maybe I would put this on the market," said Angerstein.

The Drink Local event will showcase five up-and-coming Texas mixologists competing to create the best culinary experience in a glass.

"The idea is you are using fresh, natural, local ingredients and trying to make a cocktail that's wholesome and fits in with the season here," said David Alan, cocktail writer for "Edible Austin."

The Drink Local event it is Tuesday night from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the drink mixing contest starting at 7 p.m. It takes place at the Monarch on Fifth Street near Whole Foods. There will be free samples, and proceeds benefit Urban Roots.
