AUSTIN (KXAN) - Brenda Saxon from Austin set her alarm for 1 a.m. to watch the royal wedding. But instead of sitting in her living room, she donned a fancy black hat she wore to President Clinton's inauguration and came into Downtown Austin to watch the ceremony with her girlfriend at TenOak on Colorado Street.
About two dozen either woke up early and stayed up all night to watch the wedding with a group of people. The party started at 3a.m. and lasted until 8 a.m.
Teri Steffek went to the bar with six of her girlfriends. Each wore a hot pink-colored tiara and carried a wand to wish the couple good luck.
Most were excited to see the dress Kate Middleton selected for wedding. Others wanted to see the pomp and circumstance that surrounded the event.
Overall the crowd seemed pleased with the ceremony.
General manager Orion Ondriska of TenOak Bourban House and Lounge offered guests a slice of royal cake prepared by Moonlight Bakery and had a champagne toast at 7 a.m.
"People do [American] Idol parties and it has no significance in life, but this is the most viewed event in human history so I felt that it wasn't being done anywhere in Austin it needed to be," said Ondriska. "Since we're a new business in town we wanted to give back with this wonderful event."
The Alamo Drafthouse will reshow the wedding on the big screen at noon at their location at Lake Creek.
