BEXAR COUNTY, TEXAS (KXAN) - San Marcos Area Recovery Team (SMART) divers have pulled a body from beneath central Texas waters for the second time in four days.
SMART located and recovered the body of Calvin Gibson, 57 of Bulverde, near a low water crossing on the Bexar County, Comal County line.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Department requested the dive team after Bexar-Bulverde rescue crews and helicopters conducted an extensive topside search down stream from the water crossing.
"Some of the divers still had their gear out and hanging up to dry from the Labor Day recovery in Floresville when this call came in".
Crews were searching for both Gibson and his truck.
Gibson’s wife told officials that she witnessed her husband get swept away by flood waters while driving his truck on FM 1863 near Beck Road on Wednesday night. She was in a separate vehicle traveling behind him and called 911.
She reported last seeing the headlights on his truck about 60 yards down stream from the roadway before the lights disappeared.
SMART located and recovered Gibson's body at 10:28 a.m. Friday after a 30 minute search in the rain swollen muddy waters about 1/4 mile downstream from the low water crossing.
“We are glad we were able to bring closure to the Gibson family, as tragic as this event is,” a SMART spokesperson stated, “our thoughts and prayers go to the family".
The Bexar County Sheriff's Department and the Bexar County Medical Examiners office will continue the investigation.
