Dead body found during traffic stop

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) - A rountine traffic stop turned up something out of the ordinary earlier this week - a dead body.

New Braunfels Police Department Lt. Michael Penshom said they arrested two men after making a traffic stop in the 4800 block of southbound I-35 Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.

Authorities made the stop on the pickup they said appeared to be suspicious and had also made a traffic violation. That's when officials said they noticed something suspicious in the bed of the truck, which turned out to be a body wrapped in plastic.

Police are not saying the identity, gender or age of the person, and the body is currently at the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office.

Hays County sheriff's deputy Mike Thielen said New Braunfels police contacted all nearby agencies, to which the sheriff's department responded.

Sheriff's officials said it sounded like it was related to a case they were working.

Officials believe the homicide happened in Hays County but have not released any other information.

Meanwhile, the suspects police arrested are males and are currently in the Hays County Jail.
