BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - An attorney from Burnet County, Wiley “Sonny” McAfee, has entered the Republican primary for District Attorney in Blanco, Burnet, Llano and San Saba Counties.

Sam Oatman has held the spot in his hometown for more than two decades. He was first elected to serve the 33rd and 424th Judicial Districts in 1984.

McAfee, 60, said he plans to address staff turnover and will give no leniency to sexual predators, drug dealers, thugs or thieves.

“I want these criminals in jail and I will hire, train and develop a staff with the same mission," said McAfee.

McAfee currently trains prosecutors, law enforcement officers and agents. He has been a police officer, prosecutor, law enforcement advisor and Court of Appeals appellate attorney.

Sam Oatman was not available for comment at the time of publication.
