CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - A year and a half after the Cedar Park Schlitterbahn project was announced, it is still in the proposal stages.
Cedar Park spokesperson Jennie Huerta said that the city is planning for a May 2013 opening for the water park, a year later than the originally announced date.
The park was expected to be completed by May 2012 when the project was announced in early 2010 .
But Schlitterbahn spokesperson Jeffrey Siebert said that all dates are fluid until there is a groundbreaking, and no date has been set.
According to Siebert a number of things need to fall into place before there would be any kind of construction schedule. He did not specify what is holding up the Cedar Park project.
According to the city of Cedar Park, the Schlitterbahn is a four-phase, $360 million project. Cedar Park Land is the developer and is responsible for securing the funding for the first phase, projected to be $75 million. Cedar Park Land is in the process of finalizing funding.
The Cedar Park location is one of three proposed Schlitterbahn parks. The other two are in Corpus Christi and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Schlitterbahn operates water parks in New Braunfels, Galveston Island, South Padre Island, and Kansas City, Kan.
