BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A man who was shot by Bastrop County Sheriff's deputies on Wednesday, succumbed to his injuries two days later.
According to the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office, Jose Manuel Cantu, 78, died at University Medical Center Brackenridge on Friday.
Last week , two deputies responding to a family disturbance call in the 100 block of Stony Mont Drive, came into contact with Cantu, who they said pointed a weapon at them and refused their orders to drop the firearm.
"Mr. Cantu raised the weapon and pointed it toward deputy sheriffs," the office said. "Fearing for their safety, deputy sheriffs discharged their weapons striking Mr. Cantu." Authorities have not released the number of times Cantu was struck.
The deputies, Mark Garcia and Stephen Broderick are on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation.
