BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - A sixth-grade social studies teacher who retired from Bastrop Independent School District in May was arrested and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child.
The parents of the boy, who is now 17, said Arthur Reyes, 59, taught the victim in the 6th grade. According to the boy's parents, the molestation took place for five years.
Jail records for Reyes, show a bond set of $200,000. He turned himself in and was arrested and charged on Aug. 15.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim told police that Reyes had been his sixth grade teacher. The victim also said that Reyes bough him cars, a motorcycle, an X-box and gave him money. He said the sexual assault occurred at least two to three time a week and sometimes three times a day.
According to officials with Bastrop ISD, Reyes was a teacher with the district from 1999 to 2012.
