CEDAR CREEK, Texas (KXAN) - Is learning math formulas easier when the lesson is set to music? It can be, it seems.
It's a case of Cedar Creek Middle School getting creative with an algebra lesson, figuring out all those X's and Y's. More specifically, m=y2-y1/x2-x1.
Eighth-grade math and Algebra I teacher Sabrina Cordova and a colleague, Daniel Gutierrez, decided the lesson would be better absorbed if the body was moving and swinging to the calculations, so they put the task to music, "Gangnam style."
The four-minute parody, called "Slope Formula Style," includes teachers, staff and students, and is posted on YouTube.
According to an article in the Bastrop Advertiser, the video was part of larger group projects that Cordova asked her students to produce, working together to create their own music videos, explaining a concept in algebra at the same time.
“The kids are having a blast with it,” Cordova said in the article. “They have to write their own lyrics and they can pick any song they want and produce the video.”
