BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - The Bastrop School District is voting on its original diversity plan.
The controversial plan came about last February when a middle school principal asked only African-American students to meet with her to discuss performance on Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills tests.
In May, the school board hired a third-party Austin attorney to develop a diversity plan for the district, including hiring minority teachers.
The school district is going with the original plan after meeting resistance in November, when an official tried to change the racial make-up of the group working the project.
