BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - A benefit in Bastrop today raised money for a teacher with no health insurance.
Bastrop Brewhouse hosted an event for Nicole Torres, a former teacher at Decker Middle School who has pancreatitis. The event included a brunch, live music, and a silent auction. Nicole is currently on a feeding tube and her family is looking for help to pay for her medical bills.
"We've got nothing but great responses from the community and from the brewhouse," said Jesse Torres, Nicole's husband. "They've been nothing but helpful and I'm just amazed on how much help coworkers, family, friends, you know so many different people showing up were just so eager and willing to help."
Nicole was laid off from her job as an ESL teacher last year. She has four children. The youngest one will be two next week.
