FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A car battery in Fayette County turned up about five kilos of cocaine with a street value of $175,000.
The drug search started when the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Canine Unit stopped a white Chevy Silverado heading east on Interstate 10 for an alleged traffic violation. This happened at mile marker 661 around 11:45 a.m. that day.
K-9 Officer Lobos swept the truck from the outside after the 30-year-old driver, Luis Javier Santana, told police they could search it.
Lobos got a hit on the battery under the hood, and several officers took the battery apart after removing it from the truck.
A closer look turned up five kilos of cocaine inside the battery -- the drugs worth a street value of $175,000.
Police arrested Santana, of Mercedes, and took him to the Fayette County Jail.
