AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Austin Zoo gets some new additions Thursday when four wolf hybrids from Southeast Texas are transported to its facility. The Austin Zoo decided to take in the wolves after they were displaced by Hurricane Ike and left without a home.
The wolf hybrids were purchased from a breeder and placed on property in Orange County before the breeder abandoned his property after Hurricane Ike, leaving the wolves in the care and custofy of his elderly parents. Authorities in the area seized the animals and contacted the Beaumont Humane Society about keeping them, but it was unable to take in the wolves.
Head zookeeper Sara King is helping to transfer the wolves that would have otherwise faced euthanasia.
