KXAN (AUSTIN) - A representative for Wood Ridge Apartment management says there has been no progress for repairing a balcony collapse or approximately 700 code compliance violations.
Nearly 50 families were forced out of their apartment back in May when a balcony collapsed from one of the buildings . Code enforcement found many more problems after responding.
But Asset Plus Companies representative Byron Plant says the apartment owners do not have the finances to make the repairs right now.
“There have been no repairs because funding has not been available to do those,” Plant told the Building and Standards Commission on Wednesday.
Plant says the owners are trying to sell assets to come up with the nearly $600,000 needed to make the repairs.
“They have also entertained selling Wood Ridge to a party that has additional capital.”
That explanation only caused more anger from commissioners and Wood Ridge tenants who attended the meeting.
“I’m just as disgusted as can be,” said Doug Robb who is still living on the property. “This is an absolute sickening joke. There is no accountability.”
Commissioners were also taken back by the update because they had not been informed about financial issues during their last meeting in June.
A motion was made to subpoena the apartment owners to appear in person before the commission.
At that meeting, an August 22 nd deadline was set for the repairs.
