AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman while falsely telling her he was an Austin police officer, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
According to police, the victim met the suspect, identified in court documents as 49-year-old Frederick Popp, on Quest, a singles' phone service she saw on television.
After several exchanges the victim decided she was not interested in seeing the suspect. But after telling him she wasn't interested he texted her that he was an Austin police officer and would arrest her for prostitution if she did not meet up with him.
The victim said she was frightened and agreed to meet him. He took her to an apartment. Inside he had a rifle, which he told her he had been cleaning and put it away.
After the attack, the man took her back to the meeting place, the affidavit said.
The next day Popp again texted the victim telling her that if she had sex with him again he would not arrest her, authorities said. At this time she went to the police.
Austin police were able to track down Popp through phone records.
Popp is charged with sexual assault and impersonating a police officer.
