Woman jailed after wreck, fight on 183

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A woman faces several charges after an accident southbound on N U.S. 183 Saturday that involved a fight with another driver.

According to an arrest affidavit Brenda Anderson, 29, was following a 2012 silver Honda Pilot, when she attempted to pass the car, Anderson clipped the passenger's side mirror.

Anderson continued driving southbound when she hit a second car, a green Mazda in the 11600 block of N U.S. Highway 183. Her vehicle then hit the median before stopping in the outermost lane.

When the driver of the Mazda stopped to make sure Anderson was ok, she opened the passenger door of the Mazda and said “I need you to take me to the hospital,” according to the arrest affidavit.

The driver told Anderson to get out of her car and said EMS would be coming. Anderson reached for the driver’s keys in the ignition; the driver said “she was fearful for her life and... her 11-year-old daughter.”

The driver of the Mazda grabbed Anderson by her arm to regain control of the vehicle. Anderson continued to pull on the keys, eventually breaking the ignition key off.

A witness driving by noticed the struggle and pulled Anderson out of the vehicle until EMS arrived and placed her in the ambulance.

The driver of the Pilot told firefighters that there was a white pill left by Anderson in her car and she wanted it removed.

When officers arrived they handcuffed Anderson to a stretcher to avoid her trying to run off as she had previously, according to police.

The police officer searched the 2002 tan Nissan that Anderson was driving and found two white pills on the passengers seat floorboard matching the one found in the Pilot.

Anderson said she wanted a lawyer and refused to answer police questions.

Police arrested Anderson and charged her with possession of a controlled substance, driving with an invalid license, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, leaving the scene of a crash and driving while intoxicated.

Anderson is being held in the Travis County jail under a twenty-three-thousand dollar bond.
