Woman charged in bus, 2-car crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A woman who allegedly left the scene of a crash that involved two cars -- one of which was hers -- and a Capital Metro bus has been tracked down and arrested.

Charged with the state jail felony of failure to stop and render aid is Jasmine Elaine Adams, 24, of Austin, according to documents released Monday

The crash happened on Aug. 24 in the 1500 block of South Pleasant Valley Road. The vehicle that left the scene was a green Pontiac Bonneville, according to Austin Police Department.

The affidavit states that a black Volkswagen Beetle and a CapMetro bus were stopped side by side, facing south on South Pleasant Valley Road, waiting for the light to change. When the light turned green, the bus started to head straight and the Volkswagen waited to turn left onto Elmont Road.

A Pontiac Bonneville was traveling southbound behind the Volkswagen, according to the report. It was unable to stop as it came upon the two vehicles and swerved. It struck the Volkswagen on the back right side and swerved into the left side of the bus. The Volkswagen and bus stayed at the scene, but the driver of the Bonneville drove away after a bus passenger talked to the driver, according to the report.

The CapMetro bus passenger told police he got off the bus after the collision, and walked up to the two females in the Pontiac. The driver asked what she should do. He allegedly told her to pull over to the side of the road, but she instead drove away, according to the affidavit.

The passenger sought medical attention for neck pain at University Medical Center Brackenridge after the crash. He later identified Adams from a photo line-up as the driver of the Pontiac who he had talked to after the crash.

A witness who saw the Pontiac pull into a nearby apartment complex told police, who found the car and located its owner, identified as Adams.

As a result, Adams was booked on $3,500 bond for being involved in a crash which resulted in the injury of a person, and failure to provide the necessary personal information or aid to the man, being the passenger whom she spoke with at the crash scene before she fled.
