PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - Several big rigs felt the full force of Monday’s gusty winds.
Police reported three similar instances along the wide-open, flat stretches of the State Highway 130 toll roads in which semitrailers ended up on their side.
Two accidents happened in opposite directions of SH 130 north at U.S. 79 in Williamson County. Another tip-over happened near Mustang Ridge. Each crash occurred around 4 p.m.
Some states, such as Idaho and Nevada, have laws curbing commercial trucks’ movements whenever winds exceed 39 mph. There are no such laws in Texas.
One law enforcement official says they don't ever recall seeing sustained damaging winds like this in Central Texas.
Police were waiting for the winds to calm down before crews were allowed to come in and move the trucks back upright.
