AUSTIN (KXAN) - The rainy and cold weather will not be enough to derail most New Year’s Eve parties in Austin.
Organizers of the Austin New Year event at Auditorium Shores say although the weather might cause them to alter some event attractions, the show would still go on and they simply encouraged everyone to dress appropriately for the conditions.
The same sentiment was echoed at several downtown bars where special parties and shows have been planned for weeks.
Many of the downtown festivities require tickets, some costing hundreds of dollars, to attend. Robert Espinosa, owner of The Rooftop on Sixth, believes that is enough motivation for ticket buyers to brave the elements.
“Most of them were more concerned about the cold rather than the rain,” said Espinosa.
Espinosa’s bar does not has an outdoor area that is uncovered, but other downtown bars have tarps and awnings to help shield customers from the rain.
