Violent sex offender escapes custody

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Texas Department of Public Safety is looking for a dangerous high-risk sex offender who escaped custody Saturday.

John Michael Enard, 58, has been added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list after his escape.

According to DPS officials, Enard removed his ankle monitor early Saturday morning and ran away from the Houston halfway house where he was being held.

Authorities said he is considered a sexually violent predator and is at a high risk to offend again.

The agency is offering a reward of $3,000 for any information that leads to his capture.

Enard has an extensive history of multiple sex assaults, and he has threatened to rape again.

DPS officials said he has family in Houston and Lafayette, La.

There are four different ways to provide anonymous tips:

• Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
• Text the letters DPS—followed by your tip—to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
• Submit a Web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
• Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10mostwanted by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).

Police caution, if you happen upon Enard, do not try to approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous.
