As millions watch the 2012 Summer Olympics, some may feel more connected to the London Games than others.
The British Consulate General hosted a viewing party for the opening ceremonies Friday night at LBJ Library.
"I turned up in Houston at the marathon trials in February,” said British Consul General Andrew Millar, “I was caught up in the excitement of that, and we decided at that point that we really wanted to mark the excitement of the games, and we're going to do it in Austin."
Complete with British flags and other English decor, the 10th floor atrium of the library on UT’s campus turned into a stage of Olympic excitement.
"I have a real love of British culture and everything British,” said Brynn Cain, who attended the party, “I got in touch with the British Consulate earlier this year and made friends with the Consul General, and he invited me to this party. It's wonderful to share this experience with all these people."
More than a hundred people from the Austin area and beyond turned up for the event. Party-goers enjoyed food and drinks—all with a British flair.
"I went to UT and there are 20 Longhorns competing in the Olympics, so I will be watching all of their events,” said Cindy Floyd, who was at the party, “I’m very excited to see how they do. In general, I love the gymnastics."
There are more ways than ever to stay connected with all of the excitement in London.
NBC has some new apps you can download—to watch events live and to check up on schedules and keep up with your favorite athletes.
