AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin's no stranger to big events and in less than three days, thousands of people will descend into town for SXSW.
The tourism growth has created a boom with short-term rentals, nearly doubling the amount of homes being rented out from last year.
Currently, there are between 300-400 short-term rentals in the Austin area.
Last year , the Austin City council passed a resolution regulating short-term rentals.
The City is also working on a map that will list where each short-term license is located, but the people who rent out the properties aren't happy with the potential map.
Some owners worry that a map listing exact addresses would be an open invitation to burglars, since the homes aren't always occupied.
"We think they are opening up a lot of opportunity for crime," said Taylor Perkins of STR Austin, a short-term rental site.
The map has not been posted yet.
Homeowners and other organizations are teaming together to figure out another way they can advertise those homes without putting anyone at risk.
