AUSTIN (KXAN) - Connor Brewer, 19, was arrested on charges of public intoxication and a traffic offense on the University of Texas campus early Saturday morning.

Brewer, the Longhorn's back-up quarterback, joined the team last year, a top recruit out of Scottsdale, Arizona. He had not made it onto the field this session.

"I'm excited to start my college career," Brewer told ESPN at the time. "I've had a great high school career but it's time for a new chapter. I'm going into Texas to work as hard as I can."

According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office, Brewer was arrested around 2 a.m. in the 2100 block of Whitis and was booked into the Travis County Jail. He was released around 1 p.m.

Brewer was released on his own recognizance because his charges are classified as a Class C misdemeanor. Ultimately, he will appear in justice of the peace court to face his charges.
