AUSTIN (KXAN) - Reminiscent of the ever-viral "Call me Maybe," another song parody is going viral: "Gangnam Style."
The University of Texas has followed schools like the University of Oregon and jumped on the pony-riding bandwagon -- taking burnt orange to a whole new level.
Spun off a single from South Korean rapper PSY, the horse-riding dance is so popular it's garnered nearly 159 million views.
ATXCoop pumped out its version of the video on the University Co-op's YouTube channel, though Co-op officials said management has not technically approved it due to the drinking in the video.
"We took strict measures to make sure every person involved with alcohol was 21 years or older," posted ATXCoop in response to some comments about the nature of Longhorn tailgates and the participants who recreated the scenes.
Meanwhile, many of the comments on the video page are in support of the "masterpiece" that even managed to entice an Aggie alumni to dabble in some Longhorn debauchery.
"I'm a proud Aggie and I thought this was hilarious," posted paradigm1220. "Let this be a reminder that we don't always have to fight!"
Shot throughout the weekend and posted Monday, UT's Texas-style parody has more than 38,000.
Up on the memes
Co-op officials have been delving further into pop culture and trendy student life recently, particularly when it comes to memes.
In mid-July, officials created a satirical shirt inspired by the stunning wreck that happened right outside its doors -- comically memorializing the bus crash that sent a student flying with nothing but a foam sword to shield the intense, head-on impact.
"Something at the Co-op we’re striving to do is constantly interact with the students and, you know, kind of put the Co-op in fun light -- kind of have fun with what’s happening over on campus," said promotions manager William Kelleher in July. "So we saw this as kind of an opportunity for that to kind of move forward and interact with the students."
University of Texas freshman Nick Engmann's run-in with a Capital Metro shuttle bus during the end-of-school tradition "Foam Sword Friday" quickly morphed him into an Internet sensation -- the video going viral and even landing him on "Good Morning America."
