AUSTIN (KXAN) - There are signs of progress Thursday morning for a University of Texas athlete hit by a suspected drunk driver in Downtown Austin.

Kylie Doniak, 22, and two other people were hit while walking downtown two weeks ago.

The driver did not stop but was chased down by 47-year-old Sisto Perez, who saw what happened while riding his motorcycle. Perez chased down the driver, tied him up with a bystander's belt and held him until police arrived.

Nicholas Colunga, 22, was arrested on one count of intoxication assault and two counts of failure to stop and render aid.

Doniak is still battling brain swelling and broken bones, but her family said she has opened her eyes a couple of times and that she is moving her fingers.

Her family said she is scheduled to have surgery on her leg.

Meanwhile, they've received a lot of questions about donations to help Doniak. They've set up a Wells Fargo Bank account called the "Benefit for Kylie Doniak."
