UT regents to focus on Houston search

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Board of Regents of The University of Texas system will hold a special meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday with a main focus on filling the position of president of the UT Health Science Center-Houston.

They will conduct interviews with candidates, as well as the candidates' spouses, and possibly name a finalist or finalists in the executive session.

The board will reconvene at approximately 3:30 p.m. in an open session for any necessary action on the executive session items.

The meeting will take place on the ninth floor of Ashbel Smith Hall, located at 201 W. 7th St.

The meeting is initially open to the public while the regents discuss legal issues with an attorney before going into executive session. General Counsel for the board is Francie A. Frederick.

The UT Board of Regents has 14 members, led by William Eugene "Gene" Powell as chairman.
