AUSTIN (KXAN) - Thousands of freshmen students at The University of Texas turned out for the annual "Reading Roundup on the Main Mall."

Earlier this year several professors recommended books for incoming students to read.

Tuesday morning students had a chance to discuss those books with those faculty members - among them - University President Bill Powers.

UT's freshman class has nearly 8,000 students.

Powers said nearly half of them turned out for Tuesday's event.
