AUSTIN (KXAN) - Everything at the University of Texas are fairly back to normal -- with the exception of classes -- after a bomb threat Friday from a caller claiming to be with al-Qaida triggered a mass evacuation.

Campus officials sent out text messages via their emergency alerts system, and the timeline of events seemed to unravel quickly since the threatening phone call.

Timeline of events

8:35 a.m.

• Call comes into main phone number from a male with a Middle Eastern accent claiming to be with al-Qaida and saying bombs are placed all over campus. UTPD is contacted.

9:49 a.m.

• North Dakota State University also receives similar bomb threat, prompting evacuation there: " NDSU is requiring all employees and students to leave campus by 10:15 a.m. This includes residence hall students, who, if necessary, should walk to locations off campus. This also includes the downtown buildings and agricultural facilities."

9:53 a.m.

• President William Powers, who was notified, makes the decision to call for a campus evacuation  "out of an abundance of caution." Campus officials send out first emergency text alert: "Immediately evacuate ALL buildings and get as far away as possible. More information to come."

10:05 a.m.

• This is the time at which the caller threatened the bombs would go off after the 90-minute mark.

Around 11 a.m.

• UT officials send out text message saying that the time specified for bombs to go off had since passed and that buildings were still not yet clear.

11:25 a.m.

• "University is still under emergency conditions. Please remain away from buildings."

11:46 a.m.

• Classes on the main university campus are canceled for the remainder of the day. Officials announce university buildings may be re-entered at noon. All university activities except for scheduled classes will resume at 5 p.m.
