AUSTIN (KXAN) - University of Texas students woke up to their campus covered in graffiti supporting Texas A&M University.
Spray paint could mostly be found around the Tower and the Flawn Academic Center. The Jefferson Davis and Woodrow Wilson statues were also targeted.
"Howdy," "gig 'em," "farmer's fight" and "SEC" are just some of the phrases littered around campus. Likely in reference to the Aggies leaving the Big 12 this year, "Do you miss us yet?" was also spray painted in red.
The UT Police Department is looking into the graffiti and at this time there have been no arrests.
This year the Longhorn football team will not be playing the Aggies on Thanksgiving. The tradition between the two teams was 117 years old.
The B ig 12 began the reform process just more than a year ago, with Nebraska, Colorado and Texas A&M all leaving for separate conferences.
Still, in the span of a year, the Big 12 has gone from turmoil to terrific on television once again.
A conference whose football future was uncertain with the defections of Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M and Missouri over the past two years has landed squarely on its feet.
The Big 12 has two teams in the top 10 and is the only conference to have eight schools with one or fewer losses. (The Southeastern Conference has seven).
Meanwhile, Gov. Rick Perry has said that Texas A&M's move to the SEC is good for the school and the state of Texas.
The A&M graduate said he watched the end of the Aggies' Sept. 8 loss to Florida via Internet, as he was on an economic trip in Italy.
Perry joked that he "probably should have watched the first half" since Florida rallied to win 20-17, spoiling A&M's SEC debut.
He added that the SEC is a "league that plays amazingly high-quality football."
