AUSTIN (KXAN) - Ever since the new segments of SH 130 went up in southern Travis County and Caldwell County, some drivers have been voicing their concerns about the slow speed limit on US 183.
Currently, TxDOT has interim speed limits along the stretch of US 183 that runs parallel to SH 130, but they're working towards setting permanent speed limits.
Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom (TURF) believes the lowering of the speed limit on US 183, from 65 mph to 55 mph, was a move to make the tollway more attractive.
TxDOT has begun gathering data to set the permanent speed limits in the area south of Mustang Ridge . Once the new data is analyzed and final, the speed limit must be approved by the Texas Transportation Commission.
In addition to setting a new speed limit on US 183, there are five new traffic signals along this roadway, including two which operate as flashing beacons.
