AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Texas Department of Transportation has replaced a sign in South Austin after it fell on a woman's SUV and caused almost $3,000 in damage.
Stephanie Hawkins contacted the KXAN tipline because TxDOT won't pay for the damage to her vehicle. The agency cited "government immunity," which protects the state from lawsuits and other legal actions
The department put the sign back up, but it was still leaning over. And Hawkins worried it could be a danger to other drivers.
TxDOT replaced it after KXAN aired the story.
