Two Jovita's suspects set to begin trial
Owner's brother scheduled to appear in court

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The trial for two men arrested in the drug raid of Jovita's restaurant is set to begin Monday.
Jorge Carillo and Jose Pardo are among the 15 suspects charged with intent to distribute heroin from the eatery on South First Street.
Jose is the brother of restaurant owner Amado Pardo, who died last month weeks before his trial was set to start. Amado was facing federal charges for drugs and weapons, according to his lawyer.
Amado's wife, Amanda Pardo, was also among those arrested after the raid on June 21. She pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to posses a controlled substance with intent to distribute it. Amanda has not yet been sentenced.
In total, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies rounded up 18 people on drug and weapons charges.
The raid was part of an investigation at 1619 South First St. and a house in the 400 block of Milton Street. In addition, eight other locations were raided.
In all, police seized $1.5 million in assets, including the restaurant, weapons, cars and cash.
The FBI, Austin police, the Travis County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety were among the agencies who participated in the roundup.
