AUSTIN (KXAN) - A public hearing reveals possible road improvements for the congested section of U.S. Highway 183 from U.S. Highway 290 to State Highway 71.
Called the Bergstrom Expressway, the project could open in 2020.
The Texas Department of Transportation and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority hosted a public hearing for attendees to hear and see plans for road improvements.
U.S. 183 sees 60,000 cars and trucks daily.
One plan being discussed would include six toll lanes and four- to six frontage road lanes connecting U.S. 290 to SH 71 on U.S. 183. The specific maps are online.
Planners started an environmental impact study in August, and it is expected to be complete in 2015.
The project team will evaluate each plan and take into account the input from Tuesday’s open house as well as other open houses.
More public open houses will be scheduled. Feedback can also be submitted online .
