AUSTIN (KXAN) - Thousands ran the annual Austin Marathon on Sunday morning, many of them cancer survivors.
With hundreds lining the marathon route, there was a lot of support and encouragement, including high fives from the fans. More than 18,000 tried the course. Then came the crowning achievement for each participant: crossing the finish line.
The weather was perfect, and lots of money was raised to fight cancer. Hundreds of cancer survivors ran the run, and the day was filled with inspiring stories.
Many came from out of town. The Baldwin family came from Miami to cheer on dad as Daniel Baldwin raced by. His wife said he was racing for her friend who died of breast cancer last year at 41. Others in their tight circle of friends recently had been diagnosed with additional cases of breast cancer and brain cancer.
