AUSTIN (KXAN) - Police said this is the time for the holiday shopping spirit, but they said there are plenty of thieves out there ready to ruin your holidays as well.
Authorities said car burglaries are up 3 percent this year from last.
They said too many people are leaving valuables in plain sight, attracting thieves.
Citizen volunteers with the Austin Police Department were out looking through the car windows at a North Austin parking lot Thursday, eyeing items thieves look for.
Those volunteers left stickers on windshields, warning drivers with tips to keep cars safe from thieves.
