AUSTIN (AP) - Former Texas football coach Darrell Royal, who died at 88, said many things that endured over the years. What follows are some of his most famous quotations as they appear in the book "Dance With Who Brung Us" by Robert Heard.

— "There's an old saying, 'You dance with who brung ya.'" — 1965, during a losing streak and frequently thereafter, on the importance of consistency

— "I've always felt that three things can happen to you whenever you throw the football, and two of them are bad." — 1963, on the perils of the passing game

— "That will be the big shootout." — 1969, on the game between No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Arkansas for the national championship in the centennial year of college football

— "They are like a cockroach. It isn't what he eats or totes off but what he falls into and messes up." 1961, after the top-ranked Longhorns lost 6-0 to TCU, a 24-point underdog
