AUSTIN (KXAN) - A day after the City Council was not able to reach a consensus on a bond proposal, members on Wednesday approved the broad-strokes of a $385 million bond for the November election.
The council passed the bond on first reading 4-2 Wednesday with members Laura Morrison and Kathie Tovo voting no
Councilwoman Sheryl Cole voted for Wednesday’s bond after she opposed it Tuesday.
Wednesday’s vote is the first of three votes on the bond. Council plans to make amendments to the proposal at the city council meeting on Thursday and a special called session to discuss the bond on Friday.
The council has struggled to pass the item since council member Bill Spelman took a leave of absence for health reasons. He would make their seventh and deciding vote.
If council is unable to reach an agreement on Friday they have scheduled meetings for Saturday at 11 a.m. and Monday at 9 a.m.
