Teacher charged with giving teen Plan B

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A former LBJ high school teacher and coach is charged with delivering a dangerous drug to a student after a parent accused her of giving the morning after pill to the student.

Tracy Steinberg, 32, resigned after the allegation surfaced on January 26.

According to an arrest affidavit, Steinberg bought the emergency contraceptive for a student who had been crying in her class because she was scared she might be pregnant after having unprotected sex with her boyfriend.

Steinberg allegedly told the student that she and her boyfriend had "bright futures" and she could help her by getting her the morning after pill. The student was 16 years old and did not have a prescription for the pill, which is required by law for anyone 16 years or younger.

The arrest warrant said the student and her boyfriend gave Steinberg money for the pills. When the student became ill after taking the pills, she told her mother about the situation and the mother contacted AISD police, who began an investigation.

Steinberg was immediately placed on paid administrative leave, but resigned from the district when she was told about her status.

Arrest documents said Steinberg initially denied giving the pills to the student, but later admitted the allegations were true.

She is charged with a felony- Delivery of a Dangerous Drug.
