AUSTIN (KXAN) - With the music portion of SXSW firing on all cylinders, the Austin-Travis County EMS paramedics are also working in overdrive make sure everyone is safe.
At 6 a.m. Friday, ATCEMS Tweeted that crews had responded to 35 incidents and took 20 people to the hospital from Thursday night/Friday morning's Downtown Austin's SXSW festivities.
From 3 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday, ATCEMS responded to 33 incidents in the Downtown Austin area.
In addition to regular ambulances, ATCEMS deployed nine motorcycle and utility paramedics to provide extra coverage.
Some 20 patients were hospitalized for injuries ranging from traumatic car-crash injuries to alcohol-related complaints.
On Wednesday, there were two crashes on the same street less than 1 mile apart.
Additional EMS coverage will be in place for the duration of the SXSW festivities, with specific emphasis on nighttime and weekend coverage.
