AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin Police Department's SWAT Team operation ended after a three-hour standoff in a South Austin neighborhood.

Police first got a call at 1:50 a.m. about shots fired in a house in the 3400 block of Hindon Lane. A woman inside was able to get out safely, and told police an armed man was still inside the home.

When police were unable to get the man to come out of the house, the SWAT operation began just after 3 a.m. Part of Dittmar Road, between Manchaca Road and South First Street, was closed off.

The team used tear gas and other tactics to get the man out of the house. He came crawling out, still resisting arrest, at 6 a.m.

Police identified the man as John Pace Mcbryde, 40. He was arrested on a previous warrant for a Class A misdemeanor. Other charges for the event Monday morning are pending, police said.

Investigators are still figuring out what caused the disturbance. They do not believe the man and woman are related.
