Strike won't disrupt F1 bus service

AUSTIN (KXAN) - With the threat of a bus driver strike looming, Capital Metro officials say special bus and shuttle service during Formula One U.S. Grand Prix race weekend will be unaffected.

However, the same guarantee cannot be made for the rest of the routes throughout the city.

In a statement released last week, CapMetro said they have plans in place if a strike were to happen:

"Of course, we are concerned about the potential impact a strike would have on our customers, and have developed contingency plans with our contractors to provide as much service as possible given the resources available."

Jay Wyatt, the president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, says the upcoming F1 weekend could actually help the negotiations with their management company.

“F1 helps because it might motivate them to do the right thing and motivate them to be honest with the public,” said Wyatt.

A strike has been authorized and could begin as early as this week, according to Wyatt.

CapMetro has said any changes to regular service will depend on how many drivers decide to take part in the strike.
