Howard, other House incumbents win

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Texas House and Senate remained the Republican strongholds they've been for a decade, but Central Texas Democrats held their own in Tuesday's voting.

Tree-term incumbent Donna Howard beat Republican challenger Robert Thomas and Liertarian Joseph Edgar by taking 59 percent of the vote. She was defending a friendlier House District 48 because of redistricting.

The GOP-led Legislature made her safer by shifting some of the more conservative neighborhoods to Republican Paul Workman's 47, who beat out Democrat Chris Frandsen and Nick Tanner with 58 percent of the vote.

In an open seat centered in Cedar Park, Republican Anthony Dale won the seat with 53 percent of the vote over Matt Stillwell and Matt Whittington.

On the state Senate side, Republican Donna Campbell took the seat for District 25 with 66 percent of the vote over Democrat Democrat John Courage. Campbell ousted incumbent Sen. Jeff Wentworth in the GOP primary.

Meanwhile, Democrat Kirk Watson beat out challenger Ryan Dixon with a decisive 80 percent of the vote in Senate District 14.
