MUSTANG RIDGE (KXAN) - At 3 a.m. Friday a Mustang Ridge homeowner heard his smoke detector going off and awoke to find his bedroom full of smoke.

He quickly climbed out a bedroom window and called 911.

When firefighters arrived to 12061 Von Quintus Road they saw heavy smoke coming out of the front door.

However after going inside they found a small fire near some Christmas decorations and a couch. The Travis County Fire marshal's Office said the tree, which had been left unwatered, caught fire from the decorative lights that had been left on.

Firefighters with Travis County Fire and Rescue quickly put the fire out and said that surprisingly damage to the home was minor.

The homeowner said his wife and kids were out of town at the time of the fire and no pets were inside the house.
