AUSTIN (KXAN) - A small fire at a hotel Downtown caused several floors to be evacuated on Friday evening.
Firefighters were alerted to an automatic smoke alarm at the Sheraton Hotel on E. 11th Street around 7:30 p.m.
When firefighters arrived on-scene they saw heavy smoke coming out from one of the rooms so they upgraded it to a high-rise alarm as a precaution.
When firefighters got inside they noticed there was small fire underneath the desk area. Crews were able to put out the fire within five minutes.
The hotel staff and emergency officials did ask all the customers to move to the main lobby while firefighters were working on the fire.
One civilian had light smoke inhalation but was not transported. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for over exertion.
Officials are still investigating the fire but it is possible that the cause might be electrical.
