AUSTIN (KXAN) - If a sequestration deal cannot be reached, organizations like Meals on Wheels will see thousands of federal dollars disappear.

Officials with the Austin chapter estimate they will lose $180,000 when the cuts take effect. That means about 80,000 meals per year will not arrive to those needing help.

The organization usually gets $2.2 million in federal funding every year.

The organization said no one currently receiving meals will lose their service, but those on the waiting list to join will likely remain on the outside, looking in.

Currently, Meals on Wheels in Austin serves about 3,500 meals a day, 2,500 of which are home deliveries.

According to the White House's own estimates, the state of Texas stands to lose more than $3.5 million in nutrition assistance for seniors.
