AUSTIN (KXAN) - Accusations of a violent encounter between a teacher and a student at Martin Middle School have Austin Independent School District police investigating. A business education teacher is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
Officials at Martin Middle School are remaining pretty tight-lipped. Though they are not saying much, they are citing laws protecting students' and employees' privacy.
School principal Susan Galvan sent a letter out to Martin Middle School parents stating:
“The reported incident between a teacher and a student, which does not involve an inappropriate relationship between an educator and student, is still under investigation by Austin School district Police."
According to a school district spokesperson, the student is accused of creating a disturbance, becoming aggressive and assaulting a teacher at the school Tuesday afternoon. The teacher then gained control over the student and held him down until AISD police arrived.
Galvan's letter to parents also states: "The safety of our
students is our first priority.” Galvan invites parents
to call her at (512) 414-3243 with any questions or concerns.
