Schlitterbahn still eyeing Cedar Park

New plans cuts retail space

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - While no land has been chosen and no paperwork has been signed, developers with Schlitterbahn said they are still working with the City of Cedar Park to bring a water park to the area.

According to Jeff Henry, co-owner of Schlitterbahn , the New Braunfels based company, will focus on what they do best when it comes to the Cedar Park location.

"In the original proposal, we were proposing building three phases: park, lodging and retail space," said Henry. "In this particular revamped effort, we will focus on our core, which is being a water resort and no retail."

Henry cited the economic slump as the main reason why the company decided to omit the retail space from the new plans.

A new location hasn't been chose, but discussions are still happening between developers and the City's Economic Development office.

"Typically projects of this size entail a lot of details and moving parts, which need to be worked through in order to determine whether or not an agreement can be reached," said Paul Brewer, Director of Economic Development.

Wherever they decide to build in Cedar Park, the earliest the company can even consider opening in Cedar Park would be in 2015.

The newest Schlitterbahn will be opening in Corpus Christi in 2014.
