DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas (KXAN) - Public outrage from residents in Dripping Springs is causing The Texas Department of Transportation to give Ranch Road 12 another makeover.
On Tuesday afternoon, TxDOT agreed to re-surface RR 12, between Hamilton Pool Road and US 290 West.
Drivers and neighbors complained about the "chip seal" the agency put on the road four months ago.
The more porous surface is much cheaper than what TxDOT traditionally uses on high-volume highways.
Residents in the area said the new pavement was noisy and drivers said the seal broke apart and even damaged their vehicles.
TxDOT will use a mix overlay to replace the "chip seal."
Residents who are hoping for an immediate change will have to wait until this summer - the overlay can only be done during warm weather, to prevent cracking.
In the meantime, TxDOT promises to sweep often and make temporary repairs to keep the loose gravel to a minimum.
