AUSTIN (KXAN) - Robert E. Lee Road will be closed to traffic for about two weeks starting on Monday.

The city of Austin said the street just west of Lamar Boulevard that connects with Barton Springs Road will be shut down for 24 hours during weekdays. There will be a reopening of the roadway starting at 4 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.

Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will have access around the work zone.

Crews must repair damage to the sidewalk and guard rail on Robert E. Lee caused by an automobile wreck this year.

Traffic will be detoured to Melridge Place to Ashby Avene and Kinney Avenue.

Businesses and their customers should be prepared for detours and are advised to allow for extra time when traveling through this area, officials said. They encourage people to drive carefully while the work goes on.
